Chombo Gallery: Shock Dynamics in Two Dimensions.

Shock reflection test problem, computed using the embedded boundary AMR Godunov method . This is a calculation of a Mach 10 planar shock moving from left to right, overtaking an inclined plane at an angle of 30 degrees to the direction of propagation. The grid is oriented with the horizontal and vertical coordinate directions, so that the inclined surface is represented using the embedded boundary algorithm. The base grid is 64 x 40 cells, with two additional levels of refinement (both by a factor of 4). leading to an effective grid resolution is 1024 x 640. In the left image, we show the full density field, with the outlines of the rectangular grid patches superimposed. On the right, we show a blow-up of the double Mach reflection region.

Calculation of a Mach 10 shock diffracting over five cylinders, using the same method. Density field is shown.
