We will spend much of FY03 making performance improvements in the software infrastructure and applications developed in FY02. This will require a systematic program of peformance measurement and modeling, as well as modifying implementations to improve performance. This activity will be undertaken in close collaboration with the PERC ISIC, as well as the various applications stakeholders. Since much of the computational effort in these applications is spent in iterative solvers, we also expect to work closely with the Hypre effort in TOPS to improve the performance of iterative methods by using their software and providing feedback. We will also begin the development of a version of the layered AMR architecture that couples the embedded boundary and particle methods. This is an essential requirement for the development of hybrid kinetic-fluid models for tokomaks.
